Perry Home and Garden Show

Had a great time at the Perry Home and Garden Show this weekend.  I was able to find some really nice garden decor and plants.  From $5 bags of compost worms to handmade wind chimes, they had EVERYTHING.  I spent more than I wanted to, but I could have easily dropped $500 in there if I had stayed longer or went on Saturday.  Well here are the pictures of most of the things I got (I also got some succulent plants that are not pictured).

I bought a banana plant.  Always wanted one.  This is a dwarf type.  It produces real fruit.  But you have to keep this one indoors during the winter or put a frost cover over it ($25).

Always wanted a Japanese maple tree.  This one is called a “Blood Good.” Since I am OCD LOL, I had to get this one because it matches the color of my shutters on my house.  Depending on the amount of sun it gets, it will be a very dark red ($15).  The blood good was a good price.  I got it while it was still really small (which can save a ton of money).

I actually have 2 rain gauges already, but this one was so cute, I had to get it.  Oops, I broke one of my rules (buying too many of the same thing to satisfy the over zealous amateur gardener need).  Oh well.  It was about $16.

This weird little plant is called a pitcher plant.  These little red “pitchers” that are hanging from the leaves are not exactly for drinking water or pouring water.  The plants use these little jugs to lure in insects.  The inside has little follicles that kill and digest bugs.  I am hoping that this will get rid of pesky mosquitoes this summer and not the beneficial bugs, but I guess we will find out.  I won’t stick my finger in there to find out, but I am curious to see what types of bugs it catches.  This plant also must come inside during the winter and like ferns, must have humidity in order to survive.  Ugly plant, but I couldn’t pass it up after seeing it for the second time (the first time was at the Cherry Blossom Festival).  This one was $15.  The ones at Cherry Blossom were $25.  So in my mental state of denial, I actually saved money.

I love variegated plants.  This one can be used as a border plant, but I haven’t really decided where it will go.  There I go breaking my own rule AGAIN….I’m not supposed to buy any more plants until I know where they are going.  Ooh well 🙂

Love this bird feeder.  It sits low to the ground for now, but due to the two most rotten cats in the world, I will either have to get a motion sensor sprinkler to ward them off or I’ll have to set it high above the ground with a pole mount.  Either way I still love it.  It was $20.

Well despite spending more than I budgeted for at the show, I did leave without getting the bottle candle holders, the chocolate mint plant, the worm compost that my daughter Destiny desperately wanted (gross), another hummingbird feeder, a gourd birdhouse, and a pussy willow tree LOL.  I guess I’m proud of myself.  The show was great.  They even had crafts for the kids.  They made a little tomato terrarium from a plastic soda bottle and dried flower projects.  Until next year……
